Mission Statement

 

The mission of the Factory Shoals Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide a curriculum that is developmental and preventative in design to assist all students in acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to become successful students, responsible citizens, productive workers and lifelong learners in a safe and supportive environment.

 

Statement of Philosophy

 

In alignment with the standards set forth by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), the Factory Shoals Elementary School Counseling Program works with all students to reach their full potential with regards to academic, personal / social and career goals. The counseling program is developmental as well as preventative in structure to help students become lifelong learners and productive members of society.

When fully implemented the Factory Shoals Elementary School Counseling Program should:

  • Meet the needs of all students.

  • Positively impact student achievement.

  • Coordinate services to meet the needs of students, parents / guardians, and staff members.

The Counselor will:

  • Adhere to the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counselor Association.

  • Attend professional development sessions to remain abreast of current trends, technology and tools to further enhance the program.

As a school counselor I can....

  • Meet with children individually or in groups to discuss topics such as school behavior, study skills, problem solving, or grief
  • Conducts classroom guidance lessons to address academic skills, personal safety, career awareness, social skills, and school behavior
  • Serve as a resource person for teachers and parents
  • Serve as a liaison with outside agencies
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators for the Response to Intervention process
  • Provide a developmental, comprehensive counseling program
