Transportation Update

Transportation Update
Posted on 07/26/2019

Providing your child with a top quality education and safe, secure transportation will always be the number one priority of the Douglas County School System. To help us achieve this goal, the Transportation Department has implemented a few changes effective with the 2019-2020 school year. These organizational changes will allow us to maintain our efforts to keep all of our students safe and provide time for transportation to adjust routes for the hundreds of students that register or enroll after August 2, 2019.

This year, the Transportation Department will implement a new Registration Protocol. This new, three full school day rule will go into effect beginning this school year. Under the three full school day rule, students enrolling in the first week of school will receive their bus routes three full school days later. This important change will support the Transportation Department by allowing them to provide for the safety of all students and assist in the high demands of properly scheduling transportation for over 20,000 students. This rule applies for the first week of school only.

Under this new protocol,
• If your child or children are not registered by close of business Friday, August 2, 2019, then your student(s) will not be able to ride the bus the first day of school
• Students registering or enrolling on Monday, August the 5th AND Tuesday, August the 6th will receive bus routes on Monday, August the 12th
• Students registering or enrolling on the first day of school, Wednesday, August the 7th will receive bus routes by Tuesday the 13th
• Students registering or enrolling on the second day of school, Thursday, August the 8th, will receive bus routes by Wednesday the 14th
• Students registering or enrolling on the third day of school, Friday, August the 9th, will receive bus routes by Thursday the 15th

With your help, we can ensure that every student arrives at school ready for success. We appreciate the trust and confidence you have placed in the Douglas County School System Transportation Department. Your continued support and cooperation in this new effort will help our drivers maintain timely, reliable, and safe bus service.
